HEADTEACHER STATEMENT
In May 2009 The Barclay School celebrated its 60th Birthday. Talking to some of the original students, I was struck by the way in which successive Headteachers have developed the principles on which the school was founded. These can be summed up as giving all students the opportunity to succeed, whatever their abilities, aptitudes and interests. Many past students remarked that the school hadn’t changed. Of course the buildings have been extended and updated, but the ethos and atmosphere remains supportive and welcoming.
We now work with the new technologies available in the 21st century to improve learning but don’t forget the tried and tested methods that have given generations of students such a successful start to their careers. We continue to foster the positive relationships between all members of the school community that make Barclay such a successful school, as well as being a focal point for our local community in north Stevenage.
The Building Schools for the Future programme will give us an extended and refurbished school. This is an exciting opportunity to transform the education for future generation of students. We will ensure that the spirit of Barclay is retained and that the interests of our learners remain at the centre of all we do.
