THE BARCLAY SCHOOL KARTING TEAMThe Barclay School Karting Team is open to boys and girls of any age and is organised as an out-of-school activity. Karts are constructed in the Team Workshop and in the Technology Department using many items made at school. At the weekly meetings team members are encouraged to use and develop practical skills acquired as part of the technology curriculum. They also have the opportunity to learn the basics of motor engineering including steering geometry, braking systems and engine tuning, all in a practical rather than a theoretical way. Each month between March and October the team represents the school at a Schools Race meeting held at various karting circuits around the country. This series of meetings culminates in the highlight of the year, the National Schools Karting Championships. Membership of the Karting Team. Any student of the Barclay School may become a member of the team. First they must complete and return an application form obtained from one of the team leaders. The team leaders will then consider each application and consult other members of staff as to the suitability of an applicant for membership. Successful applicants will be invited to join the team and be asked to fill in a medical record form. Unsuccessful applicants are placed on the team waiting list. Further information is available from the Barclay Karting website. |
